The Orville -
The Orville is an american science fiction comedy drama created by and starring Seth Mcfarlane. the series has been inspired by a number of factors, although Mcfarlane has noted 'Star Trek' and 'Twighlight zone' as the main contributors. The Orville is a mid level exploratory spaceship in the Planetary Union, carrying a 25th-century interstellar crew of Earth and aliens from other distant planets.
This clip from 'the orville' accuratley demonstartes the stylistic codes of the sci-fi genre, this clip shows a huge development of technology and alien life forms which are mostly found in sci-fi books, films and television. This scene also shows how using mis en scene can present the realtionship between characters; Ed is standing up in the center which makes him appear superior, whereas his companion is sat down which makes him infereior. The clip begins with a close up of a pod, and then uses a dolly shot to show the orville. this is an effective technique because it shows the enormity of the ship and how insignificant the pod is in comparison. The scene then cuts too a close up of Ed and his team mate from outside the ship, then the perspective changes so you see the same view from behind. This is also effective because it might make the audience feel as if they are on the ship and travelling with the duo, but it also helps to further demonstarte the enormity of the orville and the vast vacume of space. The scene then cuts to a tracking shot of the pod as it travels around the ship ready for landing, this is an effective technique because it shows the speed they are travelling at. Once the pod has landed, an establishing shot of the crew is used; they are seen standing in ordered rows which further demonstartes a force of authority and order. Whilst the captain is talking, a panning shot is used where the foreground is out of focus and the captain is the center of focus.

Back to the future -
Back to the future is an 1985 American sci-fi film, written by Zemeckis and Bob Gale. The film has a non-linear narrative, centered around Dr Brown, an eccentric and inventor of the time travelling Delorean, and his teenage companion Marty Mcfly. The pair end up in 1955, where Marty meets his future parents and becomes his mothers love interest. They are stuck in 1955 with no plutonium to get home, Marty tracks down docs younger self for help. Doc tells Marty that the only power surce capable of producing enugh electricity for the time machiene is a bolt of lightining. Marty sets about fixing history before heading home during a storm.
this scene from the first back to the future film begins with a tracking shot as Marty is travelling on his skateboard. This then transitions into a long shot, showing Marty and his dog. This might of been done to show the desolate surroundings but also the relationship between man and dog. A loud and deep sound can be heard, drawing the viewers attention to the metal sea container that is now lowering. This scene uses the eyeline rule, because Martys head is craining upwards as he looks at what is infront of him which is followed by a wide shot of what he is looking at. This is an effective technique because it allows the viewer to feel fully immersed in the action by looking from Martys perspective. As the door for the scene container opens slowly, the camera cuts back slowly zooming in to Marty as he begins to stand up. This is effective because it shows the look of shock and confusuion on the teenagers face, which is being highlighted through the use of white light. The camera then cuts to the reaction of the dog as he turns his head in confusion, this is effective because it is done for commical purpose. As the Delorean is moving out of the container, a overhead shot is used to show the size and technology of the car.
Although thease examples use similar stylistic codes and camera angles, they are done for different purposes. 'The Orville' is designed to be serious, despite having various commical moments. whereas 'Back to the future' focuses on the eccentric doctor and is played for laughs.
